Brief

Design and develop effective, learner-centric training assets for an upcoming drug trial adverse event reporting process change. Revamp existing ILT slide decks and transition training from 100% ILT to digital and blended solutions.

Project Synopsis

Context

Following an acquisition, the company was collating two adverse event reporting processes — neither being followed correctly, with teams repeatedly asking the same questions. Existing SOP documents and ILT slide decks were dry and ineffective, and stakeholders were frustrated having to deliver the same presentations repeatedly. The new process was still being developed against a hard rollout deadline, the content was highly regulated and changing almost daily, and the training needed to serve both new and veteran employees from two heritage systems.

My Role

I was tasked with revamping and creating more effective and more learner-centric training that helped reinforce the changes needed to shift to the new processes. I interviewed team members in different roles to learn how the process fit their routines and what prevented existing materials from being useful. Working with stakeholders, I identified training gaps and drafted objectives.

Because I knew that the design and development process would need to be flexible, I leveraged project management and time management skills to navigate and problem-solve when issues arose. I ensured frequent communication and documentation, making sure nothing was lost in the cracks. When needed, I reordered the asset development schedule and drafted light storyboards that could easily be rearranged or edited if needed.

As the project evolved, I was promoted to Lead ID to design the full curriculum, develop key assets, and oversee asset development for other IDs on the project. Together, we built a suite of training materials that included reimagined ILT decks, immersive eLearning modules, video walkthroughs, quick reference guides, and FAQ documentation. A standout asset I developed was a software scenario module where learners practiced using the new system in a safe environment. It integrated scaffolding for diverse proficiency levels, providing additional information for those who needed it without taking up screen real estate or slowing down veteran employees. The suite closed with a downloadable quick reference guide that highlighted the key points and an FAQ document for common questions.

The Results

All assets were delivered on time with exceptional quality, facilitating the technical and behavioral changes needed to implement the new processes. Stakeholders were thrilled, and many shared their gratitude for my ability to calmly drive the project and for being easy to work with under pressure.
